What do you know about Twitter?

Other than the common idea that it lets you create a huge network of individuals by following certain people and gathering followers, here are some amazing facts on one of the leading social media platforms.

  • There are around 750 tweets in a second and more than 340 million in a day.
  • With over 140 million active registered users, the site would rank twelfth as the country among the other nations with the highest population.
  • The busiest time ever in the online community’s history is during the TV screening of “Castle in the Sky” (a Japanese anime), which has a record of 25,088 tweets per second.
  • It has earned the title “the SMS of the Internet.”
  • It is one of the most visited websites.
  • Many users retweet posts mostly for their engaging content, personal connection, and humour (in this order).

Well, these are not the only reasons for signing up on Twitter today. You should also consider the fact that Google includes social media content in its search results.

Given this insight, you can say that having two or more profile pages provide more online opportunities, especially if you know how to use these to your advantage.

The question is; how can you make good use of your Twitter account?

Combine it with search engine optimisation (or SEO) strategies such as the following:

  1. Generate links and interact
These two must always go together – include your blog or website content’s URL in your tweets and engage in conversations or respond to comments. Doing the former helps you rank in search engine result pages (or SERPs), especially if you incorporate proper keywords. And, by doing the latter, you can grab the interest of your target audience.
  2. Write fascinating and relevant posts
Basing from the statistical data, which state that approximately 92% of Twitter users retweet interesting updates and 84% for personal connection (the individuals can relate to the tweet’s topic or content), it goes to show that you can benefit greatly if you tweet about interesting and important or applicable subjects. You can effectively draw the attention of many users despite the fact that you only have less than 140 characters (since you have to leave enough characters for the other users to use in case they want to add a comment while retweeting) to convey your message by linking your post to your blog content. This way, you can elaborate on a particular issue or talk about your passion without running out of words.
  3. Optimize your tweets
As stated in the first strategy “incorporate proper keywords”, this means that you have to use high-ranking search terms that are relevant to your niche or business. For instance, you can include phrases like “dress up games” or fashion world” if you are blogging about fashion. On the other hand, you can incorporate words like “best baby products” or “baby products online” if you are offering baby products on your website. You will know which keywords to use by looking into the “Top searches” and “Rising searches” of Google’s Insights for Search.

Do not forget to place these relevant phrases in your profile bio too.

  4. Connect with influential users
Build credibility and authority online by creating a network with authoritative individuals within your industry. You can do this by following them. Once you have established rapport with these people, you can mention them in your tweets by starting their adding their usernames with a hashtag (#) – #username – to generate links. By doing this, there is a high likely that some of the users, whom you have tweeted about, will provide you backlinks.
  5. Focus on one niche
Let us say that you do not have a business website and you just want to promote your blog site on your social pages. If this is the case, it is best to write articles related to a specific category. This way, you can reach out to a targeted audience. What is more, you do not have to compete with hundreds of other bloggers who are specialising on general themes.

What do you think? Are you ready to increase your ranking with these techniques?

As conclusion, you have to know that it takes time and patience before you can actually land on Google’s first page. However, you do not have to worry. The more you practise these tips, the higher your chance of ranking well.
